If you’ve been following us on social media, then you’ve probably seen a few posts about this effective, yet somehow unfamiliar, ingredient. So, let’s let you in on our secret so YOU can see why we have found it so important to have in our products. Our reasons for incorporating this elusive oil into both our Pure Revitalizing Cream and Nourishing Night Oil will have you understanding why our customers keep coming back time and time again, reaping incredible results for their healthy, glowing, radiant skin.

What is Helichrysum?

You may not have heard the name helichrysum before, but have you heard of “everlastings” or “starflowers”? Yep- those are the same thing! Named after the Greek words Helios (which means ‘sun’) and Chyros (meaning ‘gold’), this flowering plant exudes those meanings by showcasing its beautiful, tiny, yellow petals. Helichrysum Oil comes from the Helichrysum plant- where out of 500 species of these are found around the globe, only a select few of them produce the oil. Plus, due to the flowers being both small and having very little yield – somewhere around 0.2%, it can get really expensive.

However, it is the Helichrysum Italicum plant (scientifically known as Helichrysum angustifolium) that provides the natural, medicinal values of being anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial.

How?

Helichrysum essential oil contains an anti-inflammatory substance called arzanol, which plays a part in healing wounds. Arzanol is a potent dual inhibitor of pro-inflammatory transcription factors and inflammatory enzymes. (source: ncbi.nim.nih.gov)

It also has antioxidant properties that can help to prevent scarring by regenerating new cells and preventing the accumulation of free radicals. This oil is also said to relieve skin rashes, relieve infections, and increase collagen production.

Helichrysum is anti-microbial, meaning it is destructive to the growth of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

Additionally, the oil has properties that heal soft tissue damage, pain, bruising, and relieve itching. ((Which is why it works SOOO well when you use it after a sunburn!))

Interesting Fact: It’s been said to activate the right side of the brain, deepening intuition, which makes this skin oil emotionally balancing.
