Meet Our Ingredients: Carrot Seed Oil

Welcome to the 9th edition of "Meet Our Ingredients." Each month we will showcase the ingredients we use in our products to keep you informed of what you are putting on your body, why it is so powerful, and how it works to give you amazing skin.

Hawaiian Healing Skin Care prides itself on using only natural and organic ingredients in each of our products. We don't include any chemicals or synthetic elements—only items nature provides. We like to say nature knows what you need, so we are giving it to you in each amazing Hawaiian Healing product.

This week’s showcased ingredient: Carrot Seed Oil

When reading through the list of ingredients in your favorite all-natural products, it’s common to see the additions of argan and jojoba oils, shea butter, or goat’s milk.

But carrot seed oil? Carrots have seeds? And someone actually thought to press it for its oil?

Apparently, yes, carrot seed oil IS a thing. In fact, this specific wild carrot plant (scientifically known as Daucus carota and commonly referred to as Queen Anne’s Lace) has been used for both external and internal medicine. However, this special carrot plant is unlike the typical orange carrots we buy from the grocery store or local farmers markets.

It’s still packed full of the beta-carotene and vitamins A, C, & E that our bodies need, but this specific species is renowned for its additional skin-beautifying perks.

Any product claiming to be completely natural and/or organic is only as good as its ingredients, and carrot seed oil is one that is not talked about nearly enough!

This little known, undervalued golden-yellow oil is a skincare lover’s dream! Jam-packed full of antioxidants, this oil goes to war for your skin in the fiercest way! Antioxidants are natural compounds that fight oxidants (or free radicals: the everyday-grossness that pollutes our skin tissue) and limit the harmful effects causing the appearance of premature aging.

Additional key compounds of the carrot seed oil include:

alpha-pinene - helps reduce the appearance of blemishes

beta-pinene - anti-inflammatory and antiseptic

limonene - anti-inflammatory; reduces skin damage and rashes; increases the production of new cells and blood vessels, and aids in healing minor wounds

sabinene - antimicrobial, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial

myrcene - anti-inflammatory; improves blood circulation; antibacterial

geranyl acetate - anti-fungal, anti-microbial, and anti-bacterial

carotol - high content level to brighten dull complexions and lighten skin tone

To break it down simply, Carrot Seed Oil…

Cleans Deeply

Within its chemical compound structure, more than half of the compounds are either anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, oxidant, or all of the above.

Heals Your Skin

The alpha and beta pinene’s fight blemishes, limonene helps to heal wounds, and myrcene is anti-inflammatory.

Brightens Your Skin

The carotol content brightens and lightens the skin while the myrcene improves blood circulation (bye-bye, wrinkles!).

Don't confuse Carrot Seed Essential Oil with Carrot Seed Oil...

While this vicious, earthy, nutty-scented oil blends beautifully in aromatherapy to help aid the healing of stress, anxiety, digestive, and respiratory problems do not confuse ‘carrot seed essential oil’ with ‘carrot seed oil’.

Carrot seed essential oil is to be vaporized and absorbed into the body - as the warm, earthy scent provides a calm and soothing experience for both a mental and physical health boost. Essential oils are highly concentrated forms of the seed and should NEVER be put directly onto the skin. With, of course, one condition: it must have a carrier oil.

Carrot seed oil is a carrier oil that, safely carries the essential oil within it.  So, when used topically, carrot seed oil provides impeccable nourishing, healing, revitalizing, and healing benefits down to the deepest layers of your skin.

When you think about it, that’s pretty powerful considering the oil was pressed, from thousands of tiny seeds, from a weed-looking plant, and yet has been proven to combat the countless destructive skin pollutants we face every second of every day.

Along with 18 additional ingredients in our Hawaiian Healing Pure Revitalizing Cream, Carrot Seed Oil is one of the most hydrating, rejuvenating ingredients for your skincare regime.  It’s so great, in fact, that we’ve also included it in our Hawaiian Healing Nourishing Night Oil and Under Eye Serum.
