1. Properly wash your face.
No, just using a makeup wipe will not do. We’re talking about facewash and water. AND, using a toner is really important to really get all that excess dirt, dead skin, makeup, oils, and gunk out of your pores. Use a silicone scrubby 2-3 times a week to really get in there, too.
2. Stay hydrated!
Water, water, and more water. You should be drinking approximately a gallon of water a day for ALL the benefits of hydration. So if nothing else, at least do it for your skin. You’ll thank me later 😊
3. Try not to touch your face.
Do you know where your hands have been? Okay, maybe you do, but our hands pick up germs, oils, and dirt all the time! If you must touch your face, wash your hands or use hand sanitizer first.
4. Avoid greasy food.
I know it’s delicious, but minimize it as much as possible. Grease in our food affects the entire body, even your skin.
5. Use a moisturizer!
Yes, even if you have oily skin, a moisturizer is a key part of every skincare routine. Without moisture, our skin overcompensates with bad oils that cause clogged pores! It’s just as important (for your skin) as hydrating by drinking water!
6. Limit your time in the sun.
Besides limiting sun exposure, you should always have SPF in your routine. ALWAYS! UV rays cause so much damage over time. It may be good to dry out a pimple in the short term, but in the long term, it will dry out your skin- which will inevitably cause you to produce more oils that… guess what?... Blocks pores.
7. DON’T POP IT.
One zit is annoying, but a cluster of them is maddening. Instead of popping that zit, use an acne treatment (or spot treatment, like CLEAR by Hawaiian Healing) over a day or two to dry up the pimple. This way, it will go away on its own and be soooo much less likely to leave an acne scar.
8. Don’t stress it.
Okay, this is the hardest one: how do you avoid stress?
Research shows that stress causes our bodies to produce more oil-stimulating hormones.
…Uh, as if stressing wasn’t already stressful enough???
I know it sounds cliché, but some of the best ways to deal with stress are meditation, exercise, aromatherapy, and self-care! Best of all? It all leads to obtaining more healthy, clear, glowing skin.
